The logos.

I found a scan of the original logo specifications for Volkswagen.
I am jealous of designers who were before the computer. (but not really)

With such precision without the aid of the computer, I think the designer would have a stronger connection with the design.

Today, the specifications and attention to detail are often overlooked. The computer just aligns this and that and you'll call it a day. Sure the lines will align and the measurements will be consistant, but the reasoning behind it is clouded by the computers automation.

Before the computer, the designer would have to have thought of the reasoning behind every choice they made. Every alignment and every consistency is there because of the designer, no automation involved.

Sometimes consistency is obviously needed, and no thought will go into it; but it takes a good designer to appreciate, understand, and connect with their designs while using the cloudy computers.
