Illuminated Bible

Saint John's Bible

Calligrapher Donald Jackson was commissioned to create a hand crafted illuminated bible.

The bible is pretty neat.

It is made out of vellum.
They used goose, turkey, swan quills for the calligraphy.
Vermillion, Lapis Lazuli and other pigments were used. They were mixed with egg yolk and water.
They used Gold Leaf for the illumination. The bounding agent was activated using the artists breath through a bamboo tube.
Stencils and stamps were created using the computer which were recurring elements throughout the bible.
